Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance actions such as modify, remove, install, troubleshoot, functionally check, and repair components in or on POD.
- Performs operational tests on test equipment, support equipment, and pod components to determine condition, analyze performance, and isolate malfunctions in radar, sensor, communication, targeting, and electronic warfare (EW) systems.
- Use intricate test equipment such as, multi-trace oscilloscopes, frequency counters, multi-meters and other avionics test equipment to perform troubleshooting and operational checks.
- Solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar technical documents and/or drawings.
- Services, replaces, and cleans filtration and cooling components.
- Removes and replaces assembly components using hand tools, soldering devices, and electronic instruments.
- Remove, install, modify, and repair EW systems and pod sensor system wiring harnesses, interconnecting cables, and other electronic components/parts.
- Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Interprets, establishes, and complies with training, security, and safety standards.
- Ensures compliance with directives governing handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and material.
POD SHOP requirements:
- 5 years minimum/7
preferred on pod or EW systems technician.
- Must have held a USAF skill level 7 or equivalent in their career field.
- Firm understanding of Air Force flightline or backshop maintenance processes and procedures.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/ technical manuals and publications, and special tools and test equipment.
- Advanced knowledge and ability to perform wire/cable maintenance and terminations.
- Ability to use Ground Support Equipment to complete tasks.
- Training records available for MDS or primary work.
- Active security clearance.
- Willing to travel as required.
- Willingness for Flexible shift schedule with majority of work occurring on normal day shift hours.
- POD shop experience.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Possess a thorough working knowledge of the detection, prevention, and treatment of corrosion.
- Basic understanding of Foreign Object prevention and control.
- Knowledge of electrical theory and electronic fundamentals, including solid-state, binary, digital, octal, and hexadecimal numbering systems.
- Understanding of concepts and application of applicable maintenance directives.
- Surface mount and through-hole soldering experience.
- Experience maintaining and fabricating fiber optics.
Physical requirements and working environment:
- Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
- Requires frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, pushing or pulling weight up to 70 pounds.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Must have close vision to include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Requires hearing to normal range.
- Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop/hangar type environment, where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, direct sun, wind, rain, etc.
- May be required to work in areas where noise hazards are prevalent.
- Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets, working on or around aircraft and machinery.
- May be exposed to electrical shock hazard.
- Work location is aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight line.
